Training
The Club is not a training organisation. Nevertheless, we strongly encourage all members to develop their skills by attending courses provided by a range of external providers. As members of a club affiliated to Mountaineering Scotland, you can attend training events offered throughout the year. These include Avalanche Awareness, Winter Skills and Ski Mountaineering Leadership courses offered during the winter season. Navigation and First Aid are also run at other times. All these courses are offered at reasonable rates. The Club maintains a list of such courses.
Glenmore Lodge, the national outdoor activities centre, offers ski touring courses in Scotland and abroad. They also have an excellent range of online videos, demonstrating aspects of the sport.
In addition to these national public bodies, there are a large number of private providers too numerous to list here. Should you require guidance in this regard please contact the Club Training Officer.
We are very lucky in Edinburgh to have a dry ski slope close at Hillend south of the city. In addition there is an indoor snow slope outside Glasgow. Both of these locations operate fully professional Ski Schools with group and private lessons available throughout the year. Club groups often ski together at these locations. In the past, the Club has arranged high standard professional ski instruction in Edinburgh & Glasgow, at the Scottish resorts & abroad.
