​*Recent comment from the Police and the Pentlands Ranger Service is that they are interpreting the 5 mile limit as being the length of the drive not a straight line from the City of Edinburgh boundary. In this view the 5 miles is counted from the ring road not from the boundary high in the hills. Thus travelling to Carlops could result in a fine. On the north side of the Pentlands, the A70 is in Edinburgh. The 5 mile limit thus extends further west (just beyond the B 7008 junction with the A 70)
