In line with the UIAA (Union Internationale des Associations d’Alpinisme) and with Mountaineering Scotland, the Edinburgh Ski Touring Club recognises that skiing, ski touring and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
Members involved in club activities must be aware that those organising ski trips, walks, climbs or cycle rides are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified and are neither regarded by the club nor regard themselves as "technical experts”.
If a member of the club agrees to assist fellow members in an activity, it should be on the basis that he or she is only helping by sharing his or her experience. Any less experienced members of the club accompanying this more experienced member should be aware that they take any advice on this basis, and that the onus of responsibility for deciding whether or not to rely on any such advice lies with the less experienced member.
