Saturday came and the rain poured, so the cycle ride to JA and Mark's BBQ were postponed till Sunday. Sunday came and the wind blew, so the cycle ride to JA was converted into a walk down the Water of Leith to look at the Antony Gormley statues followed by the BBQ. However some perceived cycling into the gale as a challenge and refused the soft option, so the group split.
Keith, Barbara and I set off to the Gallery of Modern Art to start the trail. We ambled dreamily down river pausing only for a large bowl of soup / stovies dished up within minutes of our arrival at the cafe near Canonmills. We continued our amble, meeting the gale only at Leith docks at the final statue, whereupon we decided to take the bus home. (We did not appreciate at the time how timeous this trip was, as within two weeks two of the statues have disappeared.)
Clare, Lynn and Valerie meanwhile, had battled to JA where they met Ross. They had a very long wait to get their Nouvelle Cuisine sized portions from the expensive cafe. There was then no time (and no will, seemingly) to cough up £8.25 to view the artwork (which included Antony Gormley), so they returned home - quickly admittedly.
All of us (and more) went to Mark's BBQ which of course was an outstanding success, graced as it was by Mark's home grown potatoes and salad greens. The wind had died down and the evening was rounded off by a glorious sunset over the Forth - and no one had a camera with them!
